Brook got up today and her fever promptly went up to 103 so off to the hospital we went. The diagnosis is tonsillitis.
I am so angry. I am not an idiot, I have a college degree. I have been to nursing school (RN) and respiratory. Yet this doctor treated me like I was one of those mothers that bring their child in to the ER every weekend because they are to busy , or lazy or whatever to take them into doctor's office during the week. He spoke to me like I was a child and had little understanding of anything. He spoke down to me and refused to even entertain the idea that it may be something else. He told me that fever that long is comman and to be expected. He then tells me that she could not possibly have tick fever because she did not have a purple rash. Excuse me, but a purple rash is NOT characteristic of Lyme Disease or Spotted Tick Fever. He refused to do a blood culture. Her blood work done in doctors office meets at least 4 of the criteria for Lyme's. Yes she may just have tonsillitis but for her it has been a non-typical response. She does not normally keep a fever for that length of time. It was rarely below 101 on fever reducers. Come on now several times it reached 104.7 on fever reducers, what would it have been if she was not on them? I suppose I am a moron.
I know exactly how you feel! I recall taking my baby son to the emergency room 37 years ago and getting a lecture from the doctor. It made me feel about 2 inches tall.
ReplyDeleteI sure hope the dr. gave you something to get the fever down. I know she has to be miserable. As a child I had the same thing a lot and it is not fun. I sure hope that is all that is wrong with her. Some times drs. can be soooo rude, I wonder if they even know how they sound to us. If we weren't concerned we wouldn't be there. DAh!!!!! Put her on the prayer list in SS this morning.
ReplyDelete{{{{{{{CELESTE}}}}}}}}}}} I AM SO SORRY YOU HAD TO GO THROUGH THAT. THEY JUST DONT KNOW , DO THEY? THEY HAVE NO IDEA THIS BABY IS SPECIAL,
ReplyDeleteDO THEY? BLESS HER HEART.
GO OVER THAT IDIOTS HEAD GIRL. . COMPLAIN. COMPLAIN
AND REMEMBER, THE WHEEL THAT SQUEAKS THE LOUDEST GETS OILED. :)
KIM.
That is the problem with out health care providers today. They are so sure of theirselves that they don't want to listen to what their patients are telling them. They need to remember at some point that WE are the ones who best know how our bodies normally act and WE are the ones that know when something is wrong. And if we take the time to educate ourselves on what may be wrong with us then they should at least be patient enough to discuss it and give us answers to our questions and explain to us what is going on in their head and why they came to the decisions they did.
ReplyDeleteAnyone who won't listen to their patients is not a good doctor. They aren't even thinking of us as people, just cases to hurriedly solve and move on.
Sorry that you're having so much trouble and I can't understand why such a high fever for such a long time would not cause great concern for a doctor. It's my understanding that a fever that high that won't go away is dangerous. Of course, I don't have any medical training, but that's just what I've been told all my life.
I hope she gets better soon!
Sammie :)
I know onetime a doctor thought it was neccesary to test me for lyme disease and i didn't have a purple rash. Hope your child's fever is down. Paula
ReplyDeleteI cant stand know it all snotty Doctors like that.
ReplyDeleteLahoma
my son had tick fever and never had the rash.............it was found in his blood work. find another dr. because there are different kinds of tick disease....and this dr. sounds like a butt, anyway!!!
ReplyDeleteER doc's are like that. If I were you,and I'm not trying to be rude,I'd call her doctor in the morning and see if they'll do a blood culture. I hope she feels better soon.
ReplyDeleteYou know I just hate this kind of crap. Did the doctor know you are a nurse? I hate confrontation, but when something is demanding that I take action, do you know what I do? In this case I would had said okay, you will not run the test to check for Lyme Disease, no problem, I am writing out on this piece of paper and will need you to sign saying you refuse to test for what I requested. Sure, I know it probably would not stand up in court or anywhere else, but every time I have been a stubborn butt and did that, they go ahead and do what I ask. I usually only experience this with military doctors, normally the civilians ones will do what I request. I find that you have to throw around medical terms like abdomen pain instead of stomach hurts, and lower quadrant and stuff like that.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, sorry for that mini rant. Give little Brooke a hug and if that fever is up again you get tough. I am here rooting for the both of you!
Oh I hate drs. We in fact dont have a dr for hubby and I and the girls still go to thier baby dr. Tracys 23 adn she loves him so much so they stay there. LOL That is so awful. I have had many drs act like that to me. Its mostly emergency room drs. In fact one becuse I did not have insurance back 16 years ago sent me home with a broken foot just wrapped told me to stay off it. I had a six month old come on get real. HE siad I ll just wrap it. My foot to this day is still not right and hurts constantly. Lori
