This morning

I got up this morning to our first frost. Not a real hard freeze but enough to cause steps to be slippery and grass to sparkle. I took a picture but it did not turn out. You could not see the sparkles.

Speaking of pictures I believe that some of you are waiting to see the babies! Wait no longer, without further ado....................

Good morning!

I hope everyone has a wonderful day!

This has been a busy week. I found my dress to wear for the wedding. Now all I need to do is find some new shoes. I hate shopping for shoes. If I could get away with it I would not wear any! I have a narrow heel and a wide foot with a high instep. I almost always must get shoes with a strap across the back. I would love to get some pumps!

Got a cake baked for the cake walk at school. There is a book walk too. I sent some books also.

Got to go pick up the wedding dress today. It had a small tear in it that had to be repaired. Need more stuff to make more mints too. I picked up the flowers for the bouquet so I need to get busy on that too.

If I do not comment or write much this week, please understand! The wedding is in one week!

gee

Well for some reason I took a quiz this morning and the results were strange to say the least!

You Are A: Groundhog!
groundhogGroundhogs are cuddly-looking and timid mammals that eat mostly grass, seeds, and other vegetation. As a groundhog you will rarely stray far from your burrow and will run in the face of danger, but you will defend their home fiercely from predators. Groundhogs are even given their own holiday in the US, during which a groundhog is said to predict how long winter weather will last!

mints

Today has been fun. I got up this morning and iced a cake that I had baked last night. I baked a birthday cake for someone that cannot bake or does not have the time to bake, not sure which it is. Then I made 3 batches of mints. I love making mints! Roll up a bunch of balls, dip them in sugar and smash them in molds. Here is a picture of 3 of the mints I made.

Now I wonder if someone could help me. Everytime I add a picture using file manager, I cannot add it to my journal by using the add pictures from hometown feature. It seems that the file manager has changed my screen name to a capital letter! Any idea on how to fix it?

It's a map!

Here is a map of where j-landers. I am not sure of how far it goes as far as countries. Click on it and place your mark on it! I am in the upper corner of Georgis next to Alabama and Tennessee. Check out our Frapper!

weekend is over

Well the weekend is over and back to the daily grind. At least as close to the daily grind as I can get. With a wedding less than 2 weeks away, just how close can you get? Things have gotten topsy turvy around here. The person that was going to be doing the reception will not be here until an hour before the rehearsal! So back to the me doing it by myself. No problem there. I will be doing finger snacks like a fruit tray and sandwiches instead of  chicken corden bleu! I cannot wait until it is over with! I went shopping for a dress for me and found nothing. I hate shopping for me. I will try again.

I need to get another card for my camera. I will be taking the pictures too. I know I am not a professional but I am all they can afford. Not sure of just how to do this. Being Mother of the bride makes it hard to take any during the ceremomy. Do I just say the heck with the proper "sit in your seat" or do I just get up and take them?

Bubbles, bird seed or rice? I suppose bubbles, no clean up afterwards. Brook is tossing rose petals while going down the aisle. She is thrilled about that. A little boy from Dallas will be the ring bearer.

Punch.... Anybody have a simple punch recipe? Her colors are burgundy and white.

I am making the mints. I have already gotten started on them. They are real simple to make. I use a cream cheese and powdered sugar recipe.

Flowers...lets not even talk about flowers! There won't be any except what is being carried by the bride and matron of honor. And guess who is making the bouquets!

Now for the big question...... anybody want to trade places with me for the next couple weeks? I am ready to hide!

update on animals

I am sorry to report that the tiny baby did not make it. I was afraid that it would not from the start. It was smaller than the others were when they were born.
Precious is doing well now. She is still favoring her back legs when walking but the colicky espiode is over.

Birds and animals

This was not a good day if you were an animal or bird around here today.

Early this evening I noticed a tiny speck in the nest. Another baby has been born. Now before everybody gets excited let me tell you the very real possibilites. For one it is tiny and weak. The older birds may keep it from getting any food. I do not have any handfeeding baby formula to give it. The first 24 hours are very critical for its survival.

Now for animals, actually just one animal, Precious. Precious is aneater. She will eat just about anything even if it is not good for her. Every year around this time she gets an upset stomach. There is something out there she eats. Some time between this afternoon and this evening she went down. I went out at 7 pm to check on the horses and noticed she was laying down. Now she has been doing that a lot she she hurt her feet. She always raises her head and lloks at me when I call her. Well.. this time she did not. I walked out there and she was not doing well. Now there is no way I can pull up a 900 pound horse off the ground. I got a switch and started switching her and she finally got up. She walked about 5 steps and down she went again. I had my phone and called Pat in a panic. I get her back up again and I keep switching her to keep her moving. I walked here and kept touching the switch to her to keep her going. Here it is, I am trying to keep my horse alive and Belle and Crystal just had to show their... ummmm tails. Running and bucking, kicking and jumping, just generally showing out and getting in the way. It was a bit scary having a horse go flying by you and they are kicking at the same time. Any way...Any body with a horse knows that if they get colic you walk them forever. After after about 30 mnutes of walking, she was swooshing her tail and trying to graze some. Did not stop then. I kept her walking for a full hour. I will be going back out there in another 30 minutes to check on her. If she is laying down again we will walk some more. bUT this time I will bring her out of the field. I can't see out there at night and just the thought of being in a dark field with a crazy horse is not appealing to me. She has not colicked but is(was) on the verge of it. Horses cannot burp that is why they get tummy upsets. They have to fart!

Ok that is it for now. See yall later.

working some

Been doing a bit of work outside today. Well it was almost outside. I swept out the tack room( which does not have tack in it) so I can store some hay in it. It is attached to the barn that the horses go into so it makes life easier. I also have to board it up. It is open along the bottom of the side next to the stall and Patches( our little goat) can fit right in there. He has made it his little place to go to. I can't have that as the hay needs to be in there. I have the boards in place now I just need to nail or screw them up.

This weather makes for a  wonderful day to be doing stuff outside. It is also perfect weather to sit around  and just enjoy the day! Okay I admit, I have a bit of a lazy streak in me!

I need to be cutting the fields for the last time before wet weather sets in for the winter. But alas, I cannot do that. (No it is not the lazy streak in me!) Johnny, Candiac fiance, was helping out the other day and hooked up the new battery on the tractor backwards! Soooo, it does not run. Not sure of the damage. Could have burned up the points, some kind of condensor or something. This is an old tractor, a Farmall Super C, that orginially used a generator but it has been converted over to an alternator.

Well I guess I need to get busy. I just heard the buzzer on the washer. It is loud!!!

Precious

Precious is doing a bit better now. She is walking around more. You can tell when she walks that it hurts but at least she is moving! I went down to feed the horses some hay and she partaked in the game they play of musical stalls. LOL I never really know if everyone gets their fair share because they bounce from one pile to another so much. They do not share their bucket though!

The baby birds have their eyes open now. They are getting so big! I am hoping to get a picture soon while it is still daylight and bright in here. I do not want to use flash on them.

Well that's it for now. Happy day everyone!

My day, yesterday

Yesterday, what can I say about it. I woke up with my back hurting, my leg numb, and my ear draining. I knew it was going to be a bad day. I made the squash casserole and green beans that my daughter wanted to take to church with her. They were having a Pastor appreciation dinner at the church she was going to. I took some Advil as that was all I have except for some goofy pills which do not help my back. After a while I was feeling better. Good thing too. Pat and I were going to Prater's Mill Country Fair. Not a real country fair, no rides, no animals(except for dogs to be adopted). Actually it is a craft show.
Aw what a good day. It was cool but not so much so that we could not ride the motorcycle down to Prater's Mill. I know some of you are hanging your jaws open trying to figure out how in the world can she go to a craft show on a motorcycle. There is not enough room to bring anything home if you buy anything. In all the years that I have been going there I have never bought any large items. And the bike has a trunk, 2 saddlebags and a small luggage rack! Off we go riding in the wind. We get down there and walk around enjoying all the sounds of music, the people, the smells and the sights. We come to a booth that was selling honey and bought some. She had some beeswax lotion that I put on and rubbed a bit on my face. It smelled so good and felt even better. I did not buy it because I already had some at home. There were all kinds of exhibits there, clothes, dolls, blacksmithing iron works. One booth was selling bamboo flutes. There was a guy playing it and a woman playing a bamboo harp. Closing my eyes listening to the music brought a sense of being transported back to medieval days. It was so light and lilting and strangely haunting. Another booth that we stopped at was one that had salsas. I was in love! I love salsa. She had samples of everything out. Blueberry jam, peach preserves, raspberry preserves, peach salsa, fruit salsa, blackeye pea salsa. She had chow chow and pickled peaches. I ate to my hearts content. Bought 4 jars there of the peach salsa, blackeye pea salsa and strawberry preserves. Moving on I come to another booth with samples of various dips. They sold the mixes to make them. I tasted it all! After that was a booth that had boiled peanuts, yum yum yum! Notice a theme? I cannot seem to find anything but food! Moving across the street we go into the old Prater' Mill Store. Food, again. This timewe bought a plate of food to eat. Good country cooking. I had chicken, dressing, corn, green beans and sweet potatoes. I had a very happy little tummy after that( Ok I lied... A happy BIG tummy!) Everything is winding down and we get on our way.
Off we go to the flea market where Pat gets some new gloves. I get some new shades to wear on the bike. They are Orange County Chopper goggles. They are called goggles but you put them on like sunglasses. I really needed them. My helmet has a face shield but the wind still goes up under it and dries my contacts out. Next we go back to the leather shop and he buys us some leathers. LOL now I will look like a motorcycle mama when I ride! I will get some pictures next time I put them on!
Now back to the house, tired but feeling good. I had a lovely day with my Pat.

tribes

Call it a clan, call it a network, call it a tribe, call it family: Whatever you call it, whoever you are, you need one.~Jane Howard   One of the gifts of a loving family is the encouragement and confidence we receive to magnify ourselves.~ L. Tom Perry   The bond that links your true family is not one of blood, but of respect and joy in each other's life. ~Richard Bach   Friends are God's way of apologizing for our family.~ ANON   Theresa Williams  wrote about tribes and blogging. What she said struck as so true. I realized that the people right here in J-Land are my tribe. I have cried and prayed, laughed and hugged my members. I have felt anger at the injustice some of the members have been dealt. I have felt empathy and symptomy. I have encouraged and urged discretion. I have felt happiness and joy. I have felt your pain and anger and hurt.I have felt your love, encouragement, listened to your advice, heeded your advice. I been uplifted by you. I thank you, my tribe, my family.

Precious

I believe we have found out what is wrong with Precious(my horse). We found a borad with several one penny nails in it near the barn. Apparently one of the horses kicked it off the door. It was laying just inside a stall where you could not see it. Both back legs are hurt on her. She can barely walk. She does not have a fever and is eating. She prefers to stay outside. I put her in the barn but she busted out. Silly horse. It misted all night long. I just take her hay to her wherever she is. I only had 1 pain pill to give her. I called the vet but he is out of his office today. I suppose since she has gone for a couple days that a couple more wont hurt. She recieved a tetanus shot last year when she was hurt so she is covered in that area. She may need to get a booster though. I need to get another supply of pain meds. I will check with the vet about getting some. If he will not give me a supply to keep on hand I will go online and order some. My first aid kit needs it.

The birds are doing fine. Still only 2 babies. They are getting fat! It is about time for them to start opening their eyes. I will start handling them after that I want them to bond with their parents but I still want them to be used to human contact. It will make it easier to sell them.

Time for me to go to the Co-op. That is the place where you buy feed for the animals for those that do not know.

Buddy was missing

Buddy was missing all day yesterday. It worries me when he goes missing like that. No problem with him. He came in today and smelled just like hay. I guess he decided to stay dry rather than get wet to come in to eat!

Wednesday, October 5, 2005

I guess my horse is out of commission for awhile. She has been limping. We can not find a hurt place on her. She has not foundered so that is not the problem. I fear she has pulled her hamstring, at the very least sprained her back leg muscle. Not a lot to do for her except allow her to heal with rest. I was looking forward to taking her to the patrk this Sunday and riding.

Brook has been out of school all week. She is on Fall Break. I was looking over the school calendar and figured out that the schools have gone to the balanced school year, which is another name for year round school. She gets a fall, winter, spring and summer break. The summer break is the longest one, of course. She is bored! Nothing that I say or do helps. For her year round school needs to have NO BREAKS!

I still only have 2 baby birds. They are getting big. I cannot get Peaches to quit laying eggs though. I have followed all of the suggestions short of removing Chip. I cannot do that because he is the babies primary caretaker. I suppose I will have to remove them from nest. Then maybe she will stop. Does anybody know?

I have decided that I really like riding the bike! Gonna be a motorcycle mama I guess!

The wedding plans are moving along. Why is it that people nowaday do not know how or what RSVP is? I suppose I will have to just plan on everybody and have leftovers.

Let's see.... what else now? Oh yea. Pat and I may be going to something called The Level 10 Experience. His company is paying for it. Anybody know what the heck it is?

Working on pictures. Having trouble with the hometown add feature.

Had an extra lean hamburger patty tonight. First red meat I have had in 2 weeks. I am trying to get my health better. Last night I made Italian Slow Cooker Chicken. Boy it was good! that's it for now!
