Happy Halloween

I hope that everyone has had a good Halloween. No TP or eggs or anything like that. We had a good one. We went to downtown and they have a line you can get into to get candy from all of the merchants, NOT fun. It was really boring. So we headed off to my old hometown with our little witch, where we knew the treats were good and plentiful. AND where you had to knock on doors and say trick or treat. That is part of the fun, not standing in a line. Treats were plenty and Brook was running all around. It is pleasant to go to a neighborhood where old values still exist. She was knocking on doors and I was seeing the people that gave me treats when I was a child. I was also seeing the people that I grew up with giving out treats. Brought back a lot of memories. We got to this one house that was having a cookout for all the people that came by. They had hot-dogs and cookies, brownies, pies..... O it was good. That was the small town spirit. That brought back another memory. When I was younger, we could go all over town knocking on doors with no worries. Our parents were home giving out candy. The big kids took the little ones out. We would end up at a grocery store in town and there a group would have a FREE hot-dog stand set up with Coca Cola to drink. There would be costume contests for all age groups. No prizes, just the crowds roar. Afterwards we would trick or treat our way home. Our pillowcases would be so full of candy that did not get checked out by our parents. Popcorn balls and caramel apples where my favorites ! So how did your Halloween go?

Brook

Today Brook had TaeKwonDo. It was time for her promotion test. She has been working real hard trying to get it down what she need to do. I was so proud of her! Here she is working on her kicks before the test started.

This next picture is one of her doing the board breaking part of her test.

The last picture is one of her with Master Lee and his wife. She is an instructor at the school. See that mean look! She is proud of her new belt. She is now officially 8th KUB, orange belt. Now we can be afraid of her LOL!

Am I the only one having trouble? I try to get into a journal and I get these stupid 404 errors. It is a funny looking page. It even did it on my own journal.

Joke of the year

My hunny sent me this!

This could well be the joke of the year..........

A three year old little boy was examining his testicles while
taking a bath.
"Mama," he asked, "Are these my brains?"

Mama replied, "Not yet!"

This and that.

I had a good day yesterday. Actually, I had a good weekend. I needed one after what all happened last week.

Sunday Candi and her boyfriend came over. . They played with the horses and I cooked dinner. I made chicken and rice with garlic mushroom sauce on it, green beans, corn on the cob, macaroini and cheese and I baked some whole wheat bread. LOL I had nothing left over. I am not used to cooking for 3 men.

Brook had TaeKwonDo today. She is preparing for her belt test on Thursday. She is going for her orange belt. I saw a big improvement today. She was trying so hard. She was so embarrassed today because she could not break a board using the ax kick. It was her first time trying to do it. She kept at it though. After class was over she went off by herself and was working on her kick. A girl with a red belt saw her and came over to help her. Master Lee came over to her with another board and she was able to break it that time. She was so happy. I was so proud of her. She stayed and did that on her own with no prompting from me. I had tears in my eyes. She came running up to me with her board and saw the tears and asked what was wrong. I just told her I had something in my eye. She then started practising her form. After we left I told her how proud I was of her. It is like overnight it came to her. I hope that she continues to grow with this. She is so glad to be taking her test. Not everyone who got their yellow when she did is taking the test. Master Lee is only letting the ones take it that he feels is ready for it.

Oh yes. I had kittens born again. Susie had 4 babies on Saturday. 2 are females, I can tell by their coloring. She had 2 tortise shell calicos, 1 black , and 1 orange.

Eyore is back again. He has been here all week. Brook rode him yesterday. I like that little donkey.

Pat is feeling better now except for one minor problem.... He is worried he will get a tumor now. He has some relly wild cockeyed  notions. He still believes some of those ridiculous ideas about things. It does cause a few problems in our life. He calls me miss know it all ( not very nicely sometimes). I have to bite my tongue more times than he realizes because he really hates to be corrected.

That was my weekend. Hope yours was well.

I took

I took a quiz today that I found in A ticket to ride . I tell you this was a neat one I found out that I am a cat person. 85.7% to be exact.LOL 0% dog. Want to find out what kind of pet personality you are? Are you a CAT or a DOG?

OMG

OMG you have to see what is on my porch!

My first time

This is my first time doing this. I am going to attempt to do Patrick'sSaturdaySix

1. Think back to your years of Trick or Treating:  Which one of your past Halloween costumes are you most proud of?

2. What is the format of your favorite radio station?  (In other words, what type of music does it play?)

3. What is the oldest thing in your medicine cabinet?

4. What kind of book do you most prefer:  hardback, paperback, audio or library?

5. What is your favorite comfort food and when was the last time you felt bad enough that you needed a big helping of it?

6. READER'S CHOICE QUESTION #28 from
Tara:
Dust off your high school yearbook.  What was your Senior quote and/or what were you voted ''Most...'' or ''Most Likely To....''?

1. This one is easy. My favorite costume I was a gyspy! This was in the 60's and I had a flowing skirt made from scarves, very bright and colorful. My long hair had flowers in it. I wore lots of beads. LOL maybe I was a hippy but it was supposed to be a gyspy!

2. My favorite radio station plays music from the fifties, sixies, seventies, and eighties.

3. Oldest thing in my medicine cabinet is a cup. It belonged to my mama. It is about 30 years old.

4. Favorite type of book....hummmmm.....no way I can pick that. If it has words it is a favorite.

5. Pumpkin pie is my favorite comfort food. About a month ago life was bad for me and I bought one and ate the whole thing.

6. I did not have a senior quote as I was never a senior. I was also not voted most anything.

Halloween memory

My most remembered Halloween memory was just a few years ago. My Mama loved Halloween. She did not decorate or dress up or anything like that. We would carve a pumpkin and place it on the porch, that’s it. What she liked was all the kids coming up to the door and handing out candy to them. She would ooo and ahhhh at all of the costumes and tell them how cute or scary they were. She always worried about running out of candy before we ran out of trick or treaters.

My Mama was in the hospital again. She had had a new pacemaker put in because the old one had moved out of place. She was worried about having candy if she got any trick or treaters. My sister kept telling her that no one will be here for any candy. I just went and got her some peppermints to give out or eat if she wanted. Mt mama loved her mints but she was a newly diagnosed diabetic and could not have sugar. No problem, I just went to about 3 stores and found some sugar free mints. She was so happy to get her mints and to have something to hand out. Then she started worrying about who was going to give out treats at the house. I told her I would be doing that because Amanda was taking Brook out.

Halloween came around and Brook went out. She was adorable if I do say so myself. I made her costume and did her makeup. After t and t was over we loaded up and headed to the hospital. Brook went up to mama’s door and knocked and called out trick or treat. I heard mama’s squeal of delight. I took pictures in spite of my mama telling me not to. I am so glad I did. This was my mama’s last Halloween. I am so glad that I was able to give her one last trick or treater.

I wrote this for  Judithheartsong Halloween essay  but I am late on entering it.

Back

I am back from the hospital. Pat recieved 15 stitches in his head. He got a tetanus shot and was placed on antibiotics. They shaved part of his head. Poor guy, he was already getting real thin there. Does anybody know how to get blood out of car interior? There is blood all over his seats and seat belt. My baby bled a lot. His shirt and pants were soaked. I do not understand why the police did not call an ambulance last night. He said they did not even ask him how he was, just wanted to know what he did. All he did was defend hisself. Asked him if he had a gun. Well duh, if he had had a gun the other guys would have been there! Pat is an expert marksman. As it is there are 3 guys sure to be walking around hurting today. My Pat has very powerful arms. He built up  his arms by working on big trucks for years. He did not always have air guns available and computers to figure things out. He is not a tall man, maybe that is why they thought they had an advantage over him. They had to be shocked when they hit him in the back of the head and instead of falling he turned and knocked the guy back 10 feet onto his butt into the side of a dumpster. He got rushed but never went down. Just a few days before he had made a comment to me that he is afraid of what would happen if someone was to jumo him. He was afraid that he had lost too much of his power because of smoking. He has been quit for 7 months now! I am proud of him!.

I have to wake him up every 4 hours for the next 24 hours and for the next week I have to take him into hospital if he gets dizzy or weak on 1 or both sides. Sometimes a bleed will not show right away especially if there is a closed skull fracture. That scares me. I knew all of this that is why I was so insistance on him going to hospital.

That's it for now. Take care today.

By the way...Is it Friday the 13th????

Started already

Pat got home from work a little while ago. I was not happy. I knew he had been off work for awhile, a long while. I did not roll over when he got into bed. He laid there and made a sound and I rolled over and said o when did you get home? He said this is the second time. I asked him what he was yalking about. He said that he got into a fight. Naturally I thought he meant at work. There is a guy up there that is always doing things. He said no that he had stopped to get a coke at a store and 3 guys jumped him in the parking lot. They wanted his money. He was hit in the back of the head with something. He did not go down and turned and hit that guy. I don't know all of the details. He was covered with blood. He has a horrible gash on the back of his head. I will be taking him to hospital for stitches and a tetanus shot after Brook gets off to school. He is asleep right now. Typical man did not think it was bad enough for that. It is about 2 inches long and split open. His doctor is not in or I would call him today. His doctor does hospice care on Thursday. He makes house calls to them on that day.

This is not what I had in mind for the day.

Today started yesterday

Today started yesterday. I got up and got brook up for school. It was raining and I was hurting. While I was getting Brook ready Candi got up and came in and told me that she had to go take a drug screen that morning. I was already dreading taking her to Dalton for an eye appointment at 10 am. Dalton is about 30 minutes from here and involves freeway driving, which I hate. Now I am looking at taking her to downtown Chattanooga during morning rush hour traffic. Well we get going and it is terrible. The rain is coming down in sheets and it is lightening. I don't even like riding much less driving in the rain. We finally make it there and she goes in,  30 minutes later she comes back out. I know it is 30 minutes because the parking meter clicked off just as she got to the truck. We head back home and she is upset. I try telling her we can not make it to Dalton by 10, it was already after 9. She is angry at me telling me we would have made it if I would have gotten on the freeway. She does not know what the freeway is like at that time of morning going INTO town. I wish I had gotten on. We would have been stuck! Yesterday was bad wreck day as I found out later. I knew of one wreck because I could smell the deisel fuel. I later saw all of them on the news. Confirmed my fears of freeway driving. Funny, I used to drive the freeway all the time. I drove an hour 1 way to work on freeway every day.

The wrecks were bad. First wreck that no one knew about was a woman hydoplaned on freeway and hit guard rail and flipped off road. The Bronco was found several hours later smoking, upside down, on a railroad track. It had caught fire. The guys who found it were real shock up. They went up to it to see if they could help. All the saw was a skull. The SUV had burned and the fire had concumed the woman inside. The car had gone off the road in a deserted part of town, that is why no one saw it until daylight. Another wreck a tuck jack knifed and went thru the medium and shut down I-24 in both directions for about 6 hours. Haz-mat came out for that one. For you truckers, it was at the Rossivile Blvd Exit. Ya'll know how stupid it is banked there and the water it gets when it rains. Comman place for accidents with trucks. The next wreck also involved a tractor trailer. It was on I-75. A small pickup wrecked, cause unknown, on the northbound side. The driver got out of his truck and abandoned it in the middle lane of freeway, he then crossed over to the south bound side. Witnesses then stated that he was looking at traffic and then jumped in front of a truck and stood there. The truck could not avoid him and hit him. I feel so bad for the trucker. He was extremely shook up. People, if you want to kill yourself don't involve someone else. The man was not killed instantly. I am unsure right now if he is dead. He was not last night. He was airlifted to hospital. I tell you yesterday I was just waiting on something else to happen. And it did. I went to get a layaway out and I had no driver's license. No ID no layaway. I was frantic. I looked everywhere and no dice.

Today I called to see what it would take to replace it. LOL now how am I supposed to show a picture ID when I have lost it? So they give me this long list of things I could use and I only had 1 item they listed. I need 3. So I call about getting my birth certiftic. LOL THEY WANT A PICTURE ID!!!! Lucky for me they did accept my voter's registeration card. Now I do not know how that proves who I am ..... No pictusr and it is mailed to me and I sign it at home. Anybody could have gotten it out of my mailbox and done what I did. Tomorrow I will go and get my new license. Hopefully a better picture........ You want to know what makes me mad about all this? if I was an illegial all I would have to do is show up and get one. I would not have to prove anything. Why?

Update on Crystal. Her foot is better now. The shoes is keeping her hoof from cracking anymore. We are applying medicine to her hoof daily to help it to heal.

8 hours to go and it will be tomorrow.....

morning

It is Wednesday. I have to keep telling myself that. For some reason I have been a day ahead of myself. I kept thinking that yesterday was Wednesday. I have been having a heard time keeping up with things like that lately. my days keep running together and I really don't know why. It is not like I am too busy.

Brook is off to school now and I think I will go back to bed. This day already feels like something is going to go wrong.

Good times

I have been having a good time this weekend. I am all alone right now so here I am writing in my journal. LOL

Yesterday was a day that a lot of people would have asked , "where is the fun?" I had a good time. I went and helped Pat put some glowplugs in a diesel engine. It took us about 4 hours to do. Pat said if I had not been there to help it would have taken him about 6-7 hours. I helped by removing a few bolts but mostly by getting the tools and handing him stuff. I tested the plugs with the oom meter and put the anti-sieze on them and helped put the valve covers back on. Afterwards we picked up some KFC to eat at home. I was glad to get home. we then watched some TV and played some games.

Today I went to church and then came home to spend a lazy day. LOL

Shortly after I got home Candi and her boyfriend came over along with his son. Pat had already gotten Crystal out to work on her feet. I am glad this man came over so he could help him. Crystal does not like to get shoed. normally we do not put shoes on our horses once the weather starts getting wet and cooler. The fields get muddy and it pulls the shoes off. That can bust up their feet bad. Crystal is going to have to wear shoes. She busted her front hoof bad this week. She cannot be rode for a while now because of that. Hopefully with the shoe on she will start healing. It will take about a year for her to heal. Her hooves and hair grows slow. If we are lucky Pat will be able to do some light riding in about a month.

We were going to ride the other horses . I got Precious out and brushed her down real good. Her mane and tail were full of cockleburrs! I worked on her mane and Pat did her tail. He lauged and made a funny comment and her tail that I will not repeat! LOL She has an oily tail. I have never seen another horse with an oily tail. It started sprinkling so we decided not to ride. what they did decide to do was give Belle a much needed bath!

That's Steve and Pat doing the waterhose dance. After that was over, Steve went home and I came inside to fix some hotdogs. I had some homemade chili in the fridge so we had that with the dogs. Stevie and Brook played a game of chess. Afterwards, Pat played with Stevie.

Now they are all gone. Pat and the kids went fishing and I stayed here all by myself! It is so quiet!

Anyway that is how my good times weekend is going. I hope you and yours are having a good one too!

Report card

Report cards came out today. I have a star student. She made the star roll! Straight A's on her report card! I am so proud of her! She is so smart. As I signed her report card I had a memory of getting my report card signed.

I remember when I got my report card from school I was always proud of it. In those days you got an E for excellent not an A. I would show it to my Mama and then I would ask her not to sign it. I wanted my Daddy to do it. My Daddy had beautiful handwriting. When he was in school it was called penmanship. He always wrote with a fountain pen. It was only on the rarest of occasions that I ever saw him fix an ink blot that he had made. He would hold his pen above the paper and swirl it around with his fingers before placing the nib to the paper, then a work of art would appear. The curves and lines in his name alone to my eyes were so beautiful. I can close my eyes and see his name now. My daddy taught me how to write. My mama always insisted that I learn to write neat because she had chicken scratch for handwriting and did not want me to have that. I am proud to say, when I wish, I can write very well.

Thinking

“Life is partly what we make it, and partly what it is made by the friends we choose”~ Tennessee Williams (American playwright, 1911-1983)

My life is good in spite of all the ups and downs, mainly because of the friendships I have. I have my friend Connie. We have known each other since high school. We knew of each other before then but were not friends. Once we actually met we were drawn together. No matter what is going on in our lives or where we live or the length of time apart we always manage to remain friends. It has been constant. It has been a lifeline for me at times. I have made new friends here on line reading journals and writing in my own. There is a bond with each and everyone. Some are just casual friends and others will and do go beyond our journals.

My friends, thank you for being in my life and making it good.

Easy cleaning tips

Instructions on how to clean your toilet

1. Put both lids of the toilet up and add 1/8 cup of pet shampoo to the water in the bowl.

2. Pick up the cat and soothe him while you carry him towards the bathroom.

3. In one smooth movement, put the cat in the toilet and close both lids. You may need to stand on the lid.

4. The cat will self agitate and make ample suds. Never mind the noises that come from the toilet, the cat is actually enjoying this.

5. Flush the toilet three or four times. This provides a "power-wash" and rinse".

6. Have someone open the front door of your home. Be sure that there are no people between the bathroom and the front door.

7. Stand behind the toilet as far as you can, and quickly lift both lids.

8. The cat will rocket out of the toilet, streak through the bathroom, and run outside where he will dry himself off.

9. Both the commode and the cat will be sparkling clean.

Sincerely,

The Dog

thinking about stuff i like

I love this time of the year! Apples and pumpkins and colorful winter squash become standard parts of my decorations. Fall comes and I get the urge to decorate. I really do not care if anybody sees it, I do and that is what counts. I started digging my stuff out today while Brook was at school. I am missing a box somewhere... I will find it! I only have a half a dozen places to have placed it. I have wreathes and scarecrows, pumpkins and witches. Fall leaves and pinecones are something I have plenty of. My cookie cutters are out ready to get to work and my cookbooks are earmarked.

Friday I will probally go get my fruitcake stuff. I do not want to hear one word about YUCK! I use my Granny's recipe with a few modifications. She candied her own fruit and I use store bought kind.

There is a little story behind the fruitcake recipe. My Granny had a stroke when she was in her early 80's. She wrote down the recipe at that time. It had never been writen down before that. Unfortunately, she could not remember the measurements for the spices. I suppose for the most part she just looked at it and said that is right. I was looking in my mother's cookbooks and found the recipe tucked in it. This was about a year before she passed on. I decided that I would try and recreate my Granny's fruitcake. My mama loved fruitcake and so does my oldest sister that lives out in Vegas. I did a lot of searching of recipes to find a general idea on how to do the spices. I must have looked in a hundred recipes! I made the cake and it was a success! My Mama said that it was even better than my Granny's, more moist. I supposed it did not hurt that I used fresh black walnuts in it from my own trees..... and a lot of love goes into it every year now

Care?

A friend of mine has a lot to say about how the government treats our elderly. Her entry is titled You Can Take the "CARE" out Of Medicare . I can understand her anger. My mother was one of the lucky ones, she had suppliment insurance with her Medicare. My brother was able to afford it for her. She still had to pay a couple hundred dollars a month on her medical bills. My husband's mother is not so lucky. She will not even go to the doctor anymore unless she goes to the hospital. She has chronic lung disease and heart problems. She got medicaid suppliment to her medicare but because of her daughter she lost it. (She is also a non-compliant patient. Takes her meds only if she "feels bad" instead on a schedule). Something needs to be done. The government is not taking care of the elderly. They do not truely realize what it means to not be able to get the treatment needed to live a nornal life. Our elected officals do not have that worry. WE pay for their medical expences what do they have to worry about?

You know that Medicare prescription card that they keep talking about? It can save you some money on a prescription. It saved my MIL a whole $25 off of her bill. Her bill was $250. She did not get all of her meds.

Each one of us knows someone in their family or have a friend or knows someone that has family or a friend in this same type of situation that my friend is in. I don't know what to do other than pray and write to my elected officals and demand some changes FOR THE GOOD!

$$

“Parents can only give good advice or put them on the right paths, but the final forming of a person’s character lies in their own hands.”~ Anne Frank

Things have been peaceful here for a couple of days now. She is working a temporary job today. She is laying sod making $9 an hour. She is going to need every penny she makes. We got her probation stuff taken care of and she is having to pay thru her nose. She has to pay for her court ordered drug rehab. She has to pay for her minimum  of twice a month drug tests. She has to pay to see her probation officer. She has to pay her fine. These fees come to over $300 a month. In addition she is required to work a job and provide for her family. That is also court ordered. So let's see how does that work out? Say she gets a job for $6 an hour( that is high pay here in the fast food industry, one of the very few places that will hire someone with felony drug conviction) That is $240 a week providing she works full time, which is rare in any place now it seems. Taxes will take about $50 of that, leaving her with $190 a week, times 4 that is $760 a month, minus her fees of $363 a month, she has $397 to live on. Brook loses her medicaid because her mama is working. Brook has asthma. Her medicines cost between $75 and $400 a month. So what is a person to do? Luckily for my daughter she has us. What of the ones that do not have support? What happens to them? Why do they make it where the ones on probation are almost guareenteed to fail and become repeat offenders?

im here

You will not be punished for your anger, you will be punished by your anger.”~ Hindu Prince Gautama Siddharta, the founder of Buddhism

“Emotional occasions, especially violent ones, are extremely potent in precipitating mental rearrangements. The sudden and explosive ways in which love, jealousy, guilt, fear, remorse, or anger can seize upon one are known to everybody….And emotions that come in this explosive way seldom leaves things as they found them”~ Williams James, American philosopher

I allowed my fear to get the best of me over the past couple of days. It manifested itself as anger. Once the anger got me in its grip it would not let go. I lost control and I am not sure of what damage has been done. No one was safe, including myself. I became my own worst enemy.

Things are quiet on the home front, for now. I know that I over reacted. I was not the only one that did so but I am not responsible for other people, only myself.

I need to sit back and keep my mouth shut. I have very strong opinions and sometimes they do get in the way of being reasonable. My reactions were not reasonable. I do not like it when things get out of hand. I will admit that I had a great deal to do with what happened. Luckily for me and everyone concerned I did stop short of telling her to get out. That would have been wrong. It would have hurt the whole family. I am going to have to hold the reins tight on myself for Brook’s sake. I do not want to create a riff that will cause me to lose her. And yes I could lose her as I know some of you out there know.

I know this is my house and I am the one that raised Brook for the most part but I have to allow my daughter to take over. I will step in if things are off. I just hope that she realizes that she cannot be too harsh or she will turn Brook against her. She does not understand the heartache that you have when your own child is against you.

qqqq

Sorry I have not been around much. Things arre pretty hectic and emotional around here. I will find some way of writing about it but I cannot right now, everything is too raw inside of me and I must allow myself time. At this time I am not the best person to even leave a comment in your journals. My cynical attitude does not lead to anything nice or helpful or anything but probally rude and possibly hurtful comments. So please forgive if I just read and not comment. This will pass and I will feel like a human instead of a ............

Today

anticipation  \an-tih-suh-PAY-shun\  noun

What does it mean?
1 : an earlier action that takes into account and deals
with or prevents a later action
  2 : pleasurable expectation
3 : the act of preparing for an expected event or state
So what will happen today?

yesterday

Yesterday was strange. Well, it felt that way. Actually it was a pretty normal day. Pat and I went out without Brook, that was the strange part. First, we go eat ribs at my brother-in-law's BBQ place. That reminded me of how much she liked ribs! That kid can eat 1/2 rack with no problem! Next, we went to the flea market. Everything we saw remnded us of Brook. Pat left a necklace to be repaired at the repair shop then we wandered about. I found a place that was selling bath salts and I had to get some. This lady sells it for $5 a pound. I bought Sandlewood which smells so good! She gave me 2 pounds of it for the price of 1 and threw in a bottle of lotion that smells of sandlewood too. I got a really good deal there! I also bought a candle at another shop . It is in a mason jar. The scent is Country Spice.  It has the hint of cloves and cinnamon and smells so good burning! $5 for that also. Speaking of smells, I need to get over to Motherearth's Cupboard and get me some of that potpourri. I found this site thru Ann's journal. So anyway we continue shopping and Pat spots a car and he just had to get it for Brook. We cannot go anywhere that he does get something for Brook! As we were leaving the store Pat spotted some swords and he had to stop and look at them! And as in most cases he bought one! The one he bought has a cobra on the handle.

He has developed this thing about collecting swords. I suppose it is better than collecting girlfriends! LOL!

After we got home we got the horses out and Crystal has a bad place on the inside of her leg. It looks like there may be a couple of holes. (Not like a snake bite) It is swolloen and very painful for her. We doctored it up and will keep an eye on it. Hopefully we wil not have to call the vet out. I rode on Precious and she did good for me. She is catching on to the neck reining stuff.

Now today is a new day. I wonder what will happen? Well I am off to fix breakfast and then to church.

I hope everyone has a good day today. I know I plan on having one.
