About the last entry

I know there are a few people wondering about the last entry. Look around you and you will find groups of peopleThat control or are in the process of gaining control of things. Take Congress for example, a large group of people that control us. Yes they do control us. The only control we have is our vote. Take a look at other groups. Did you ever have the thought come across your mind,"what a stupid group of people?" Lately I have been thinking that about several groups. I have been wondering why?

  1. Yes we need to vote. I hate to hear people complain and they never have cast a vote in their life. Paula

  5. There are few things more dangerous than the group mind.  By coincidence, I was just reading about group minds tonight in a wonderful book by Ernest Becker called DENIAL OF DEATH (winner of a Pulitzer Prize!).  The problem with groups is twofold:  1--people act out on the repressed desires within groups  2--people "follow the leader" and by doing so absolve themselves of guilt.  I think it was Mark Twain who said something about the danger ouf groups (mobs, he called them).  A great movie that shows the dangers of group minds is  12 ANGRY MEN.  Great entry!!

  6. This is so true.  Sociologists will tell you many things about group mentality, and very few are positive.  Logic and conscience are swept away in the rush of group action and emotion, and mobs are capable of great cruelty.  Theresa is right, there is perceived absolution after the fact when one goes along with the crowd.  In the moment, there is little rational thinking.  And this applies to Congess in their "deliberations."  There is nothing deliberate about it - it's all groupthink.

What a stimulating (and sad) entry.  I have been meaning to check out your journal for a long time (from Theresa's) and am glad I did.
