Sad

Today started out pretty good. Got Brook off to school, had a cup of tea, then headed out to picked up my load of compost. On the way there I saw a sad sight. There was a horse laying on the side of the highway dead. I thought to my self that one of the horses that are pastured by this pond just a short distance away had gotten out and been hit. I hated seeing that. I got over to Candy's boss's house and only saw 2 horses there. I asked Candy where Jimmy was. She said he is probably in the barn. I told her what I saw and so we went out to make sure. Jimmy was gone. We went down to the road and it was Jimmy. My daughter cried. I have never seen my daughter cry over the death of an animal. She called her boss up and told her, at least she tried to. She was so upset that I had to do it. Her boss was vacationing in Florida with her GF. She was upset but did not blame Candy. She had only had the horse for about 3 months. No gate was left open. I checked the fenceline (as I was much calmer than she was) and found a place where there were fresh dirt scraped up. It loks like the horse may have slipped under the fence. The fence was on the edge of a steep embankment at that point. There was enough give in the barbed wire and space that he could have slipped under it. I hope he did not suffer. I hope it was fast. He has already been buried. A neighbor took him home and another neighbor came over with a backhoe and buried him. Rest in peace Jimmy.

  5. I'm so sorry, but glad no humans were hurt. Several years ago a lady hit a horse down here, ran off the road, flipped and killed her. Paula

  7. Very sad! If someone hit the horse, I can't believe they didn't stop and try to find the owner or something.
