My 1 year anniversary with AOL journals is next week but I am unsure if I will be around. Internet and phone service are luxuries I may not be able to afford much longer. Shoot, electricity is something I may not be able to afford. Well it seems that worker's comp has decided to cut his check down even lower. His company is paying him a reduced wage and so worker's comp is now paying him based on that wage not what he was making when he was injured. And guess what? It is legal. So now He is making less than someone that works for McDonald's. So what to do? Apply for public assistance? Nope, his truck is worth more than $1500 that alone cuts him out. Quit? That is probably what they want. That way they do not have to pay for anything including the bills he has already accumulated. Start doing his full job before the doctor releases him? That will cause the same thing to happen, he will have to pay all the bills. Do it anyway? What will stop them from firing him. NOTHING! In Tennessee you can be fired and the employer does not have to have a reason. They cannot violate federal law. So that means they cannot fire you because of age , sex or race. As a matter of fact there is a law on the books that say if you put in a job application anywhere your current employer can fire you. And how about this.. If you do not have a written contract they can reduce your pay to minimum wage

  9. Celeste,
I am so sorry all this is on your shoulders now...Believe me,I have been where you are  and it is not a nice place to be....I hope things work out soon. Have you gone to the public assistance office? There may be some kind of program to help out....maybe food stamps, or somes ort of assistance....
I think that is so dirty of workman's comp. and his employer.
    Take care,
    Carlene

  11. Celeste, I am so sorry this is happening to you.  I hope things begin to look up and that you can find some kind of solution to this mess. The law sounds so utterly unfair where you are.   Sounds like it's time to take to the streets again with a few placards.
