update

An update about the dog. It is a pit bull or pit bull mix. It has now attacked Crystal, Pat's horse. She has a bite on her leg. Luckily not too bad, does not need stitches but will need medicine and daily cleaning. She is up to date on all shots including rabies. The animal control will not do anything unless I catch the dog and keep it until they get here. They have cages but do not have any available. HAAA. Those cages are not strong enough to hold a large dog. He did say that I have every right to shoot the animal as it is attacking my animals. We have wild animals around here and I am not afraid of them. There have been sightings of a bear, coyotes, and wildcats in our pasture. This dog, I am afraid of. What if he comes around in the daytime when Brook is outside playing? So yes, I will shoot this dog, and I will shoot to kill.

  2. Who let you know that the dog was up to date on all its shots? Its owner? If so get the owner to keep the dog away.. The dog maybe is hungry? Maybe hes not fed and is unsure on what to do .. ?Maybe that is why he is attacking(survival kicking in?)?? Just an idea.. I wouldnt shoot to kill but thats just me.. I'd do something to make sure it didnt come back but I wouldnt kill it..but I also imagine it is a scary time.. and I dont see why animal control doesnt remedy this now.. that is wierd.. :) Melaney

  3. Could it be a wolf? About ten years ago my mother's neighbor had mistaken her dog for a wolf and he shot it because something was getting in his chickens/hogs/horses (I do not remember).  When he realized it was just our dog he rushed it off to the vet.  They tried everything, but he died by morning.  He was one of those dogs with blue eyes, I cannot think of the name of it, the kind that pulls the sleds in the snow, etc.

I hate that thing is biting the horse, is that even dog behavior?  What does he think, he is going to eat the horse.  Oh my. Another thing, our vet bills were huge, because city folks would bring dogs out to the country and dump them, then my daughter would adopt them and we would have to get them fixed up, etc, etc.  It was a nightmare.

Anyway, I hope you catch what ever is causing you all grief.

  5. I know your wanting to shoot this dog is bothering some out in J-Land.  Many of my relatives owned farms as I grew up and I had to come to terms with "critter control" methods early in life.  I understand fully the need to eradicate this dog and remove the danger to your beloved animals and, especially, your family members.  Good luck solving this problem.  Sam

  6. Boy, sorry to hear the stray bit the horse.  I'm appalled at animal control for not being more aggressive on trying to help you catch it.

  7. Pit Bulls are illegal in the UK. When they brought in the law against them, The Dangerous Dogs Act, they all had to be registered and muzzled, they had to be neutered also.  By rights there should be no pit bulls left here, but I would bet there are still some.  There were some nasty attacks on people which caused the Act to be implimented.

  8. We had a dog to kill 18 of my chickens 2 years ago. He was still out in my field. I wouldnt let my husband shot him. I called and wonted to file a police report they told me to call animal control. I called animal control and got the same story you got. If you pen him, if he comes back we can trap him, they also said they could not do anything about the dog if I didn't know who it belonged to. If I knew who it belonged to I would have been on their door step!!!! I walked back to the chicken house and told him to shoot it that noone cared! You have a right to protect your livestock.

  10. Dogs do kill children. Aggressive dogs need to be contained. It is a sad but true fact of life--and we are animal lovers, too. But your animals and your grandbaby need to be protected.
