I was reading the New York Times this morning and read a segment about Michael Jackson begging for a fair trial. Jury selection starts today. In all honestly, I doubt that will happen. No matter what anybody says they will not be able to separate the celebrity from the man. I am sure that he is counting on that. People tend to put superstars above the rest of us. Why? What makes them better than you or me? They can sing well? Play better ball? Act better? No matter what they do, they are still human beings and that along makes them no better than you and me. What does that mean? Well it means that , yes they do rape people, steal from places, lie, molest children, do drugs, murder, drink and drive, among other things. That’s right. They are not perfect. They wake up in a bad mood. They get stuff stuck in their teeth. They step on their shoelaces and untie them. They have lots of money and with that comes problems and benefits that some of us will never know anything about. All I am saying is that being a superstar does not make you innocent or guilty, what it does do is keep you from getting a “fair” trial like the rest of the people. Did you know that in the boy in question is going to have to testify in open court? Tell me something how many times before have you ever heard of a child regardless of his age testifying in open court about being molested? Even when everyone knows who the child is the testimony is always behind closed doors.
Is he guilty or innocent?
The boy and his brother will have to testify in open court and it might be televised. Anyway,as far as seperating Michael's celebrity you're right. No jury will be able to but so long as they can make a descion not based on it then I think it'll be okay. As far as guilt or innocence if the prosicution can get in all the evidence they want to then there's a strong possibility he will be convicted. We're talking two search warrents worth of what the prosicution will refer to as "adult material",acohol bottles with the prints of Jackson and the accuser on them, descriptions of Jackson's naked body and a ton of other things!! Plus, that documentary that was done prior to the alligations coming out and there's material on that, that's very damaging if you're the defense. It'll be interesting to see how the defense counters the evidence the judge is letting in and he's hardly through deciding what will and will not be allowed into evidence.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Celeste. They are just the same as the rest of us and yet their celebrity puts them apart. We shall get reports of the trial over here. Is he guilty or innocent. I really do not know, but this is the second time this has come up and there seems to be a lot of evidence against him. Celebrity also works in another way, if he IS found guilty then he should take the punishment just like normal people have to. His celebrity should not make him receive special treatment.
ReplyDeleteI agree about people being basically the same no matter how much money or stardom they have...not anone is perfect; no matter how much they are in the Hollywood lights.
ReplyDeleteAs far as Mchael Jackson goes, is he guilty or not guilty?....I would have to see what evidence they come up with....is this the same boy that Michael paid the parents not too long ago to let it drop? Or is it a different one? If it is the same; then something is not quite right with the parents either, and something should be done to punish them as well.
But no, there is no way he will get a fair trial....money talks you know.

They have made such a travesty of the whole mess, already, that I don't think a "fair" trial is possible. Not a big MJ fan, of late. Liked a lot of his earlier stuff, before he started his metamorphis into whatever the heck he is now, BUT, don't think "guilt" will ever be established, at least not inb a court of law. rich
ReplyDeleteI don't know, but the picture of him dangling his baby over the hotel railing still plays in my mind. He should not be anywhere near children. My gut says guilty. judi
ReplyDeleteWell, if it's possible for him to get a fair trial, I hope he gets it. I do not like how certain celebrities expect special treatment.
ReplyDeleteI love MJs music from the late 70s and 80s...but the music is not the man. I think this time there is just too much evidence to ignore. What is worse...I think he is sick and desperately in need of help, but he can't get it because he is too famous and no therapist will touch him (unless they have ulterior motives).
ReplyDeleteGuilty or innocent ....he is creepy as hell !

I agree and we should all be treated equally.
