Happy Halloween

I hope that everyone has had a good Halloween. No TP or eggs or anything like that. We had a good one. We went to downtown and they have a line you can get into to get candy from all of the merchants, NOT fun. It was really boring. So we headed off to my old hometown with our little witch, where we knew the treats were good and plentiful. AND where you had to knock on doors and say trick or treat. That is part of the fun, not standing in a line. Treats were plenty and Brook was running all around. It is pleasant to go to a neighborhood where old values still exist. She was knocking on doors and I was seeing the people that gave me treats when I was a child. I was also seeing the people that I grew up with giving out treats. Brought back a lot of memories. We got to this one house that was having a cookout for all the people that came by. They had hot-dogs and cookies, brownies, pies..... O it was good. That was the small town spirit. That brought back another memory. When I was younger, we could go all over town knocking on doors with no worries. Our parents were home giving out candy. The big kids took the little ones out. We would end up at a grocery store in town and there a group would have a FREE hot-dog stand set up with Coca Cola to drink. There would be costume contests for all age groups. No prizes, just the crowds roar. Afterwards we would trick or treat our way home. Our pillowcases would be so full of candy that did not get checked out by our parents. Popcorn balls and caramel apples where my favorites ! So how did your Halloween go?

  1. oooohhhhhhh, tell Brook, she scared me !!!! lol
Sounds like your town is a lot like mine. Yep, we used to could trick-or-treat without worrying about the candy too, cause we knew everybody that gave it to us! There is a sweet little lady on my street that has been here since before I was born that made pop corn balls..oooooooooh they were soooooo good! She had a stroke two years ago, so she now presides over her grandaughter making them, so she can still give them out!

  3. LOL Her makeup is a scream! I remember Halloweens like that. Some neighbors would invite us in for hot mulled cider and homemade treats. There was the woman on the next street who dressed as a witch every year...I looked forward to seeing her. She always had cupcakes for the kids she knew well. Orange frosting with candy corn or candy pumpkins stuck in the top. I still remember the year when the razor blades in the apples rumor struck. It was never the same again.
