Busy baking and baking and baking

This is going to be a busy busy night and day tomorrow. I am in the process of baking 3 cakes and 2 pies. In the oven right now is a Spiced Rum Cake. Next on the list to go into the oven is a German Chocolate Cake. A Pumpkin Coffee Cake is on the list and 2 pumpkin pies.  Why? Well Saturday is the Fall Festival at Brook's school and we are sponsoring the cake and pie walk. A lot of the parents will be bringing store bought stuff. I understand that. There are a lot of working parents out there without the time to bake. I am not one of them. I have the time. I can make the time. there are also a lot of people out there that have no idea how to bake a cake or pie. They think all you do is open a box or call the bakery. Even the cakes where I use a box mix I add something else to it. It is rarely made by the directions on the back of the box! I love how my house smells right now!

  1. I love the way it smells too..yummy!!!!!  and like you...takes so little time to make up a scrumptious cake...now pies are not my speciality....LOL...cobblers are better LOLOL....have fun...hugs from KY...Ora

My husband laughs when I say that the directions for anything is only a suggestion.  I love to bake from scratch too and if I ever open a box, I always put my own special touch to it, making it a work of art.  I know your house smells yummy right now.  How can you possibly stay out of it until the bake sale?

    Please publish the recipe for the pumpkin coffee cake.  That sounds absolutely delicious!

    If I were to attend that festival, I'd buy every thing you baked.  I'm sure your items will sell quickly.  Good luck with the event.

  5. Brook is so very lucky to have you. I had to work all the while my daughter was in school so I was one of the box cake mix moms. But I am not sure if I would even know how to start from scratch. have fun

Yum!  I have been doing a lot of baking lately, too.  We were given a bunch of Cushaw pumpkins, so I've been making pumpkin cakes for us and to give away.  This is the time of year I love to bake, and even though I don't usually eat much of it myself, I still love to bake.  Thomas loves having homemade baked goods to take with his lunch, too.
