I went this morning and gave some cat food, toliet paper and water to a collection site for victims of Katrina. I cried all the way home. I want to do so much more.

On the news last night they showed some of the refugees that are here in our area. One of the hospitals in the area made food for them and collected stuff for them. All of them were elderly and/or sick people. They all required medicines that were not enough to last them for how long they will be here. The hospital gave them enough for a couple of months. The oxygen supplier in town is going to fill up their oxygen tanks for them. The city of Cahttanooga is opening up  some of the low income units for survivors of Katerina. All you need is an ID showing that you are from there ( and some money of course).

I feel my heart breaking everytime I see the news or read anything.

Why does a looter need a big screen TV in a place where there is no electricity?

  1. We have been horrified watching over here, the devastation, the looting, now people shooting at rescue helicopters. All those poor people trapped, it breaks your heart.  God bless them all and let us hope they get them all out soon.

  4. If everyone gives a small amount  it will soon add up.  And I could not believe the man with the TV.  Food and water Yes perhaps I can understand that they need to survive ""BUT A TELEVISION".......Ally

  5. People want to say the looting is in part from hunger.......no, not I or hardly anyone in America has experienced real hunger.  It is panic, fear, and greed.  -  Barbara

  7. That was a nice gesture Celeste, you just do what you can.  Those poor people have lost everything. It`s nice to know that people are helping in anyway they can.  But I saw pictures of looters stealing things that were not essentials and I felt the same as you did.

  8. How true, my friend. Why steal at all if you can't eat it?  I can only pray . . . Penny

  9. I think that perhaps he thought he could sell the television and get money?  People do terrible things when they are desperate. It is so sad.

  10. It s so sad to me too. But what really is bothering me is the looting and hurting that is going on. I can uderstand taking food or water from a store to survive. But they are stealing and taking things like jewlery and hight ticket things. Thats so over whelming to me. There is this story hubbys mom sent us called the parable of the spoon. its pretty true about working together. such a good story. But they are not doing that alot. I know not all are bad but those that arent are so scared becuase of the bad ones.

  14. I have seen no proof of shootings, just reporters claiming such.  I think they want to make everything seem like a war zone for entertainment purposes.  I have only seen grocery store and clothes being "looted."  In times like these we should care less about people stealing t.vs (I have yet to see this) because corporations are insured for one thing, and for another the person who is indeed stealing something like this will meet his or her Fate.  How can one survive such condtions carrying out a big screen t.v.  In other words, it should be the least of our worries.  I am not saying it because of your wonderment, but because our society accepts that authority will abandon such operations as search and resuce in order to save property.  Property is nothing, property can be replaced, life cannot.  It really shows where our as a country values lie.  My soul is broken.  This episode is revealing what everyone has been denying for so long, including the "victims."
