Flood Survivor

Went walking the other day and found a flood survivor. A hornet's nest right where the water was about a foot and half deep. I have no idea how it could have survived the rush of water that went thru there. This nest is on the ground. See the hole in front? Theere are hornets flying in and out there. I pass that everyday on my way to get Brook. It is right beside the driveway. Any suggestions on what to do about it? My daughter is allergic to bee stings. Brook has never been stung so I do not know if she is or not. But with hornets, it really does not matter. They will sting you so much that it can kill someone that has no allergies.

On the other hand, it is a beutiful nest isn't it?

  1. Well, it is so amazing that this nest has survived the flooding and that the hornets were not drowned.  I do not know what to suggest except contacting somesort of animal/wildlife agency.  Very good photo.  Must be tough little creatures.

  5. A CDC uniform and two cans of Raid might do the trick. That is a nice picture, but ugh! I'm allergic to bees, wasps ect myself, just looking at that next makes my skin crawl.

  7. Nest is beautiful.  Bees aren't.  The only way I know how to get rid of it is kind of dangerous.  My dad would poor gas on them and set them on fire.  Course you have to have a water hose or something near by so everthing doesn't go up.
You probably could buy some over the counter stuff to spray but that is a huge nest.

  9. I'd be tempted to either leave it alone or call a professional. Don't take chances of a fatal attack.
