ReplyDeleteHi Celeste, thanks for your comment and for sharing your experience with me. I remember interpreting for a man who wanted to be promoted to management level and was denied. He filed a grievance and said to the panel, I can do everything about this job except hear. If I had a computer I could communicate with everyone. They weren't convinced then but some five or so years later, he did get promoted and used email and a secretary/interpreter. It worked great. I think you're right that when you live the experience, it makes you more empathetic to what others are feeling. Because of what my parents went through, I was more sensitive to what happened to other people. That's a way to put a silver lining in a cloud, right? :)
ReplyDeleteLove the photo and the quote!
