Learning is fun

Life around here has been full of excitement for me. I love learning new things and this is a biggie! Pat has been taking me to the high school to ride the bike in the parking lot there. Around and around in circles I have been going. Riding circles to the left and circles to the right, over and over again. I am learning to keep my balance and use the brakes.

The next day we moved to a different part of the lot that had no speed humps and was basically a road behind the school that went to the dismissal door. There I learned to pick up speed. The thrill of it! Feeling the wind blow against my body, the vibrations of the motor under my hinney, the power with every twist of the throttle, all combined to give me a joy I never thought I would experience. In that session I learned how to shift gears smoothly which require to use your left hand and left foot for the gears and your right hand to roll back on the throttle a bit (still working on that one). How to use both brakes , right hand and right foot at the same time. Did you know that 70% of a motorcycle's braking power is in the front brakes? I also spent some time on learning to make tighter turns. Those are hard. I am having to deal with the fear of turning over on those turns.

Now I know there are a few wanting to know if I have dropped the bike. The answer is yes. I dropped it the second time I rode it in the driveway at home. It was not bad. I stopped on a slight uprise and the bike rolled back fast. I was not prepared and the running board on the right hit my leg and over we went. The left side running board caught the bike and kept it from going too far over and of course my foot on the ground! I have a very large bruise and lump on my right shin about the size of half a grapefruit !

My MSF class starts Friday the 14th. I have been studying the material I have along with the GA Motorcycle Drivers Manual. I am looking forward to the class. I wish Pat could take the class but it is during his work hours and so that will be impossible.

On to another subject. LOL I am continuing to take the exercise class. Pat is encouraging me and that is a good incentive for me. I have lost 7 pounds since the 7th of July. That is encouraging for me. I am not getting sore after the classes so I may step it up a notch. I know I need to do more than 2 hours a week of exercise no matter how intense that exercise is that I am doing. We are in 90 degree days again so walking is hard until after dark and that is not good in an area that has no streetlights. I do live out in the country you know and we do have wild animals out here.

Ok I am out of here before I bore you entirely to death.

  1. I didn't think this was boring. Congrats on the weight loss. Seems like you are doing it at a nice and steady clip, and that is what you need to concentrate on.

I don't think the bike got too hurt when you dropped it. Long as you didn't bust up anything, it won't mind!
