just talking

A great marriage is not when the 'perfect couple' comes together. It is when an imperfect couple learns to enjoy their differences.
Dave Meurer, "Daze of Our Wives"

Slow day, accomplished nothing. Of course it is not over yet. The dryer just stopped so that is something.  I have about 5-6 more hours of being alone so I will get something done.

School starts next Friday here. Brook is all ready to go. I am a bit concerned though. They are not allowed to carry bookbags or backpacks. They will be switching classes and they do not have lockers. that means they will have top carry in their arms everything from class to class. I find that unreasonable. I believe I will just have to buy her a rather large pocketbook so she will have some way of carrying some of her things.

I have not seen much of Brook in the last 2 weeks. Johnny's family has been here from Texas and she has been staying up there. I feel like I have been shut out. They live half a mile away and I do not see them anymore. I spend every evening alone and in silence. Sometimes the only sound I hear is when someone signs  in or out on AIM.

We are still in a drought here. It has been raining but the years of not enough rain has taken it toll. We are still in a Level 4 extreme drought in my part of Georgia. I am seeing some new growth on trees, something I have not seen in a few years. I noticed today that the local lake is rapidly going dry again .  I hate to say iit but  had hoped that the hurricane that hit Texas would have turned in the last bit and headed my way. It will take a tropical event to get some moisture back in our groundwater level.

Sorry friends, I am reading some but not commenting. Look at me as a lurker right now. I am laughing with you and crying with some.

  3. I loved the quote hon! I think it's unreasonable to expect someone to carry a days worth of books around to each class. I hope they make some kind of allowance for the books. (Hugs)Indigo

  4. Wow, shades of yesterday!  I had to carry stacks of books with me all through high school.  Of course back then, we didn't really know anything else.

The difference between you and me is, I enjoy being alone a lot.  Cliff is always saying I'll never miss him if he dies first because I don't need people.  Of course he's wrong on that count:  I'd be lost without him in my life.  But I might, perhaps, survive better than many women.  Or maybe not.  There are some things with which a person doesn't really know how she'd cope, until it happens.

  6. There has to be some kind of allowance for the books. Maybe a little cart of some sort to haul them? We had lockers in my day. I can't even imagine not having them.
Good luck sweetie. Know I'm thinking of you.

  7. You're never alone.  Your journal friends are always here.

And the no bookbag backpack policy is unreasonable.  How can they expect kids to carry everything like that?

  10. No wonder you feel glum.  You must be lost without Brook around.  We got our first really decent rainfall in a while out of Dolly.  Hope God will make a way to send ya'll some soon.....without danger and damage.  -  BArbara

  12. I hope Brook is back with you soon.  I agree that it is unreasonable to have the kids carry ALL of their things from class to class.  I can't believe they don't have lockers.  I hope you can get something that she can use to help her out.  Thanks for checking in with us.

  14. How did we manage to get around school without all those huge backpacks or carrying everything? Mostly the kids don't seem to use lockers even when they have them. My child pulled her shoulder carrying her backpack - I eventually got a letter from the doctor. The school was required to provide her books in class so she didn't have to carry them. Seems a reasonable solution, doesn't it? Then she had her books at home to use, too.

    xoxo
